It may seem like just a fancy way to pour a drink, but there is more that goes into it than you may think. Don’t worry, there is no need to strain yourself. Vodka for Breakfast is here to be your guide!
There are two main types of strainers that you will see, first off, the most common, the Hawthorne strainer.
And the julep strainer
Now, each of these strainers have there place. The julep strainer fits better into a mixing glass. So when pouring a drink from a glass, the julep is preferred. When you need to strain from a mixing tin you will want to use the Hawthorne. this type is the most common you will see and if you were to only choose one, this would be it. although, they are both repetitively inexpensive, so why not have both!
There is also the use of a secondary strainer.
This strainer is often used in drinks with finer muddled ingredients. It is also used to prevent small shards of ice pouring in to a drink after it is shaken.
Speaking of ice, this is another element that goes into drink mixing. First off, you may not realize it, but ice is an ingredient in almost every cocktail. the more pure and bubble free the ice, the longer and harder you can shake the drink. Also, if ice sits in a freezer for too long, it can get an off taste to it. This will throw off the taste of the drink! so take care and use fresh ice people! Using clear ice isn’t necessary, but it makes the cocktail look so much better.
Now you have the knowledge to make some proper and delicious drinks! So go forth and mix! Have one for us here at Vodka for Breakfast, and have a great night!
