Let’s get one thing straight – you can certainly like piña coladas and not like getting caught in the rain. We actually prefer them in the sunshine.
If you’re looking for an escape today, this drink always seems to get the job done. You will rarely find a drink that complements warm weather so well, and it can be served as a daiquiri if your bar is equipped to handle such a drink. This sweet cocktail packs a tropical punch – we’d be willing to bet you won’t want to drink just one.
Here at Vodka for Breakfast, we like to focus on the foundation of our drinks and give our readers a chance to build on that foundation. The Piña Colada is no different – it’s a fairly simple drink that can be garnished and served in many ways.
3 parts pineapple juice
1 part white rum
1 part coconut cream
Crafting your Piña Colada
To make a standard piña colada, you’ll want to mix these ingredients in a shaker and serve it over ice. The standard garnish for a piña colada is a maraschino cherry and a pineapple, but just about any tropical fruit will pair well with this drink.
If you’re in the mood for a daiquiri, we recommend using crushed ice and mixing your drink up in a blender until the ice is smooth. One of the more popular variations we’ve seen with the piña colada is called a Lava Flow – it involves mixing a strawberry daiquiri and a piña colada and it is delicious.
