Have you ever wondered how to properly layer a drink? I’m sure you have all seen those visually stunning layers shots in pictures, but do they actually exist? Well, not only do they exist, but Vodka for Breakfast is going to help you master the art of layering a drink. So sit back, relax, and prepare to be amazed by the magic that is drink stacking!
The most important property to know is the density of each ingredient. Most drink instructions will tell you the density; if they do not, you may have to experiment. Once you know the density of each ingredient, always pour the heaviest first and you will be looking good. Also, make sure to pour the liquor directly in the center of the glass, or your gonna have a bad time.
Once you have a nice base, its time to start on those layers! Grab yourself a spoon and set it above the glass upside down. Touch the tip to the edge just above the first layer, but not touching it. Raise the spoon slowly as you pour to keep it above the ingredients. Don’t worry if you mess up a few times, you can always drink your mistakes! Now, simply repeat the process for any other layers you wish to add, and enjoy!
Things to Remember:
- You may need to adjust the spoon, different heights work better for different people!
- Always pour layers from heaviest to lightest
- Pour slow and steady, this is easiest to do with a bottle that’s already half-empty
- Choose ingredients that aren’t too similar in color. No point in layering if you can’t tell its a layered drink!
