The Monkey Wrench is a rum cocktail with grapefruit juice and a dash of bitters. However, its much better if you appreciate it in the simplicity of the design. Why? It tastes like grapefruit juice with the right amount of bite. This simple drink is more than it lets on to be. If you are not one to favor rum cocktails don’t worry this is not a spirt forward drink, the bitters and juice do a magnificent job of masking the flavor of the rum. Now I’m not saying you won’t taste the rum, I’m just saying you will like it. This quickly became one of my favorite party drinks because of its ease to make and most people enjoy it. I always hated spending more time behind the bar mixing cocktails than drinking them.
With only 3 ingredients many mixologists are quick to throw this cocktail to the side and favor a more complex drink. However, that is a huge mistake. Why? Well, let me put it this way, what looks more impressive. Struggling for five minutes to mix 7 ingredients or simply mixing a few bottles together and serving something unique and delicious? The ease at which you can build this drink makes it looks so easy anyone can do it (they can but I advise not letting them know that).
