Down Goes the Moscow Mule. Say hello to the Dark & Stormy!
Everyone knows what a Moscow mule is, and to many of us it’s a go-to when ordering a mixed drink. And why not! It tastes great, its easy to make, and best yet its usually cheap. However, there comes a time in every drinker’s life when expanding our horizons is necessary. Trying a new drink is a great way to expand your arsenal of cocktails.
To that end, I give you the Dark & Stormy!
This simple drink is a must try for any drinker, and a must know for any serious mixologist/bartender. With similar flavors to the Moscow Mule, the Dark and Stormy is an easy transition from the same 3 drinks you have ordered at the bar since college.
- 2 oz. Dark Rum
- 3 oz. Ginger Beer
- 1 Lime slice
How to make a Dark and Stormy:
Combine rum and ginger beer in a glass full of ice. Sir gently, 3 times should do. Garnish with lime wedge.
There is much controversy over which glass fits the Dark & Stormy the best. Many go with the traditional highball glass, some chose the shorter Collins glass. I have found it tastes great in a copper mug similar to the Moscow Mule. However, for this one what is most important is that you make it and enjoy it.
