Picture this, you are out on the town and are feeling classy. So, you make your way to the bar and order the classic martini. As soon as you confidently order, you are suddenly hit with a load of unexpected questions. Vodka or Gin? Up or on the rocks? dirty? dry? Olive or twist? Fear not, for VFB is here to help you out! Lets start from the beginning, how is this cocktail made?
- 1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
- 3oz Gin (or Vodka)
Where as this is a simple drink to build, there are several small variations to the martini. First off, Shaken or stirred. If shaken then simply add all ingredients to a shaker, shake with ice, then strain into a chilled martini glass. If stirred, then add all ingredients to a mixing glass, and stir with ice till the class is chilled then strain into a chilled glass. One question is Olive or twist? This is simply a garnish question, but adding the olive (my personal choice) will add just a bit of saltiness. Similar would be the question of if you would like it dirty. If so, this will add olive brine to the recipe adding even more salty flavor to the drink. Up or on the rocks is weather you want it straight “up” or with ice. Finally, and obviously, Vodka or Gin is just the spirit used in the making of the drink
So next time you are feeling like you need a little class, don’t look like a fool. You are now prepared to order and consume this drink with confidence. Drink up friends, and enjoy the martini for the rest of your days.
